How Canvas & Clay Ltd Started

Back in 2017, we noticed something. People were stressed, burned out, struggling to find outlets. But they weren’t interested in becoming “artists” — they just wanted to create something with their hands, feel present, and maybe find a bit of calm in the process.

We’re three friends who’d been tinkering with watercolours, clay, and collage for years. Nothing fancy. Just genuine exploration. We thought, why not open a space where others could do the same? Where there’s no judgment, no pressure to be “good,” and no pretense.

Canvas & Clay Ltd launched with a single room in Dublin. Now we’ve got sessions across Ireland — libraries, community centres, local studios. We’ve worked with over 800 people who’ve discovered that creative practice isn’t about the finished piece. It’s about what happens while you’re making it.

Three Core Mediums, Infinite Possibilities

We’ve chosen these three because they work differently on your brain and hands. Some people find their medium immediately. Others explore all three before discovering their favorite. That’s the whole point.

Watercolour Sketching

We start with basic washes and don’t stress about perfection. Watercolour’s fluid nature makes it forgiving. You’ll learn to work with flow instead of fighting it. Most people feel the difference after just two sessions.

Pottery

Clay is meditative. Whether you’re hand-building or working on the wheel, there’s something grounding about the material. No artistic skill needed — we focus on the sensory experience and letting your hands guide you.

Collage

Collage breaks the pressure of “creating from scratch.” You’re combining, arranging, layering. It’s about composition and play. Beginners often feel most confident with collage because there’s no “wrong” way to approach it.

Community Art Sessions Across Ireland

We don’t run isolated workshops. Canvas & Clay Ltd partners with local Irish centres, libraries, and community spaces. You’re not just learning a technique — you’re joining a group of real people doing the same thing.

Our sessions run in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, and Waterford. Each location has its own rhythm, but the approach is consistent: small groups, no pressure, and space to explore at your own pace. We’ve noticed something interesting — people come for the art, but they stay for the community. They find themselves coming back week after week, not because they feel obligated, but because they genuinely look forward to it.

Whether you’re dealing with stress, looking for a new hobby, or just curious about what creative practice might unlock for you, there’s a Canvas & Clay Ltd session near you. No experience necessary. No artistic skill required. Just show up and try.

Why We Do This

Canvas & Clay Ltd operates on principles that guide every session and interaction. These aren’t mission statements — they’re how we actually work.

Creativity Isn’t Reserved for Artists

You don’t need talent, training, or a perfect finished piece. The value is in the process, not the product. We’ve seen people who thought they “couldn’t draw” discover that they loved the feeling of creating. That’s what matters.

Stress Relief Through Your Hands

Creative practice works because it’s active. You’re not scrolling, not thinking about your to-do list — you’re engaged. Your hands are busy, your mind settles, and something shifts. We’re here to make that accessible.

Finding Your Medium Matters

Not every medium works for every person. Pottery might click immediately for you, while watercolour takes longer. Or collage feels like home from day one. We help you discover what resonates, what feels natural for your personal reflection and expression.

Community Over Competition

We’re not ranking work or comparing results. Everyone’s exploring at their own pace, their own way. That environment — where you’re not being judged — is where real creative expression happens.

What People Are Discovering

These aren’t testimonials about becoming artists. They’re about what happens when you give yourself permission to create without pressure.

“I’d never touched clay before. Wasn’t sure what to expect honestly. But after the first session my shoulders felt different — less tight. Now I’m coming back every week and I’m genuinely excited about it.”

— Aoife, Dublin

“The watercolour sessions are my reset button. I’m not trying to create a masterpiece. I’m just sitting with the paint and colours, and it’s… quiet in my head for the first time in months.”

— Marcus, Cork

“I thought I wasn’t creative. Turns out I just hadn’t found the right medium. Collage was instant — it felt like home. Now I’ve got this community of people I actually look forward to seeing each week.”

— Sarah, Galway

“Canvas & Clay Ltd helped me realise that creativity isn’t about being ‘good.’ It’s about showing up and trying. The pottery class became my favourite part of my week.”

— David, Waterford

Important Information

Canvas & Clay Ltd provides creative workshops and artistic exploration sessions for stress relief and personal expression. While many participants experience genuine benefits from creative practice — including stress reduction, improved focus, and meaningful community connection — individual experiences vary based on personal circumstances, engagement level, and prior experience. The sessions and mediums we offer are for educational and recreational purposes. Creative practice is a complementary activity and shouldn’t replace professional support if you’re dealing with significant mental health concerns. We encourage participants to approach our sessions with openness and to communicate any specific needs with our facilitators. Your experience with watercolour, pottery, or collage is deeply personal — there’s no “right” outcome, and that’s precisely the point.
